BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tennessee football was picked to finish seventh in the SEC in a preseason poll voted on by the media members at SEC Media Days in Dallas this week.

Georgia was voted the favorite to win the SEC Championship, followed by SEC newcomer Texas and reigning SEC champion Alabama.

The SEC has expanded to 16 teams this year with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma. This season will mark the first time since 1991 that the SEC will have no divisions, and instead, the two participants in the championship game will be the two teams with the best conference winning percentage during their eight-game conference schedule.

The preseason SEC media poll has correctly chosen the eventual SEC champion just nine times in the last 32 years.

Predicted Order of Finish:

  1. Georgia
  2. Texas
  3. Alabama
  4. Ole Miss
  5. LSU
  6. Missouri
  7. Tennessee
  8. Oklahoma
  9. Texas A&M
  10. Auburn
  11. Kentucky
  12. Florida
  13. South Carolina
  14. Arkansas
  15. Mississippi State
  16. Vanderbilt

The media also voted on preseason All-SEC selections. Tennessee had just two players appear throughout the list, with defensive end James Pearce Jr. and center Cooper Mays selected as First Team honorees.
