KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 4 Tennessee baseball hit 14 home runs over the three-game series against Auburn, which ended with a win on Sunday afternoon. The Vols racked up runs in all but one inning, and the final score was 19-5 in Auburn. Tennessee has now won three straight conference series.
On Friday, the Vols had two big swings from Kavares Tears and Christian Moore to set the tone for the rest of the weekend, but the game ended in a 9-5 loss. It seemed like UT entered the final two games with something to prove.
Tennessee hit six homers on Saturday and six on Sunday. On Saturday, Blake Burke knocked out his 41st career homer to break Tennessee's all-time home run record. On Sunday, Christian Moore's 40th big swing put him one home run away from tying Burke's record. He is tied with Luc Lipcius for second in Tennessee history.
Cal Stark's grand slam in the series finale marked Tennessee's ninth grand slam in 32 games this season, breaking the prior single-season record of seven. Stark added another homer late in the third on Sunday against the Tigers to make the score 10-3. Dean Curly and Hunter Ensely also knocked out solo big swings to add to the total.
Auburn's pitchers could not stop UT's offense, and the Tigers alternated six pitchers on Sunday and four on Saturday in the back-to-back run-rule victories.
Next, Tennessee will return to Lindsey Nelson for a five-game homestand, starting with one matchup against Alabama A&M. The first game is on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
The Vols will continue SEC play against the LSU Tigers in Knoxville on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
