OMAHA, Neb. — No. 1 Tennessee baseball dropped the first game of the College World Series to No. 3 Texas A&M on Saturday in a 9-5 defeat at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
Recent history shows that it might not be time to hit the panic button if you are a Vol fan, because the team has shown this season that it cannot be counted out of a series after losing the first game.
Three times this season, the Vols came back to win a three-game SEC series after losing game one. The Vols rallied to defeat Georgia, Kentucky and Auburn this season with back-to-back wins to close out those series and clinch victories over those teams.
Tennessee has also lost back-to-back games just once this season, when the Vols lost to Alabama on March 16 and March 17 in their lone SEC series loss of the season.
13 of the last 20 national champions have won the first game of the College World Series finals. The other seven champions rallied to win two games in a row after falling short in the opener.
The Vols will try and rally back against the Aggies in game two of the College World Series finals, which will begin at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
