Soccer Club of Oak Ridge advancing to program's first National Cup

The U13 Lady Mustangs won the club's first-ever regional cup last week. Now, they have a shot at competing at the highest level of competition in their age category.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — After winning back-to-back state cups in early June, the U13 Lady Mustangs were invited to play for the club's first-ever regional cup in the Soccer Club of Oak Ridge history.

The team consists of 11-13-year-old girls who say they had little expectations going into the tournament. However, throughout five games, they came out on top, shutting out five of the best teams from different states all over the Southeast region.

Now, the Lady Mustangs have a shot at competing at the highest level of competition in their age category at the National President's Cup. The team will head to Wichita, Kansas, to compete against some of the top club teams in the country.

Head coach Sean Moua expressed his gratitude for every opportunity, saying, "This is a huge step up—multistate, all southeast. I'm just honored to be coaching these girls." The team is grateful for any support it receives on its journey to the National Cup.

The tournament's opening ceremony is on July 11 and the Lady Mustangs will begin the round-robin tournament the day after on July 12.

The Lady Mustangs are raising money for travel expenses and other necessities for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
