Gatlinburg-Pittman football dedicates season to the memory of head coach's brother

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — The Gatlinburg-Pittman football team will dedicate its season to the memory of head coach Tyler Williams' brother, Ward Williams, who passed away this week after a long battle with cancer.

The team will wear "W" stickers on the backs of their helmets for the remainder of the season. It extended its support to the Williams family ahead of the game.

"G-P football would like to dedicate this season to the memory of Ward Williams who fought the good fight and finished his race," the team said in a post on social media. "We love and appreciate the Williams family and want you all to know the Highlander family loves you!"

Gatlinburg-Pittman will play its second game of the season on the home field against Cocke County on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The team will hold a moment of silence to honor Ward Williams before the game begins.
