Dylan Sampson breaks program record for most rushing touchdowns in single season with 19

Sampson scored a 7-yard touchdown in the third quarter before getting his record-breaking 19th rushing TD late in the fourth.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UT Football running back Dylan Sampson broke the program record of 18 rushing touchdowns in a single season against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday. 

Sampson scored a 7-yard touchdown bringing the Vols into the lead with a score of 14-10 in the third quarter. The Vols trailed the Wildcats at halftime 10-7, with Sampson's record-tying touchdown putting UT in a solid position as the third quarter came to a close. 

Gene McEver currently holds the University of Tennessee's single-season rushing touchdown record with 18 touchdowns in 1929. 

With just minutes left in the fourth quarter, Sampson officially scored his 19th rushing TD, breaking the previous program record.
