Carter Softball making first-ever state tournament appearance

The Lady Hornets are making the trip to Murfreesboro for the first time in school history, led by first-year head coach and Carter alum Nicole Light.

STRAWBERRY PLAINS, Tenn. — The Carter Softball team is making its first-ever trip to the state tournament this week in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Hornets are led by first-year head coach and 2015 Carter graduate Nicole Light, who said she knew this team had the potential to make it to this point.

"I knew that this was probably the most talented team, physically, that Carter has ever had," Light said. "I had high expectations for them, but I'm honestly still in shock and I'm just so proud of them for making it this far."

Carter seniors said the feeling is also surreal for them, and they are savoring the experience in their final year with the program.

"It feels amazing," shortstop Kayla Rucker said. "We have accomplished so much this season."

"I'm so dang proud of these girls," third baseman Gracie Miller said. "I'm excited to go on a trip with these girls."

Carter will play its first-ever state tournament game against Upperman at the Starplex in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, May 21.
