MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Alcoa boys' basketball team went back-to-back in 2A and handed the unbeaten Douglass its first loss of the season. This was due to a triumphant effort in the state championship game at MTSU in Murfreesboro on Saturday.

2A tournament MVP Jahvin Carter put up 28 points to lift the Tornadoes past Douglass 76-67 and to their second state championship in a row. These teams met in the 2023 state championship game as well, which ended in the same result.

Carter led all players in scoring while standout freshman Jamir Dean added 14 points to the victory.

Douglass made a final push in the fourth quarter and trimmed what was at one point a 21-point Alcoa lead to just four points, but the Tornadoes pulled away to close out the game with a win.

The title marks the fourth state championship in program history and the first time Alcoa has won two titles in a row. Before 2023, the Tornadoes' most recent championship win was in 1967.
