KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The high school football season has reached the midway point of the regular season, and Oak Ridge wide receiver Will Pressley and Halls linebacker Dom Culp have earned player of the week honors for Week 5 of high school football.
Pressley continued a standout campaign for the Wildcats and racked up 152 receiving yards and two touchdowns on only three catches in just the first half of Oak Ridge's 31-6 win against McMinn County.
The receiver said he enjoys being one of the "go-to" guys in the passing game.
"It feels good to be that guy that is able to go out and make a big play, but I couldn't do it without my team," Pressley said. "We've got a great defense that can get stops and get us back on offense so I can make a play, and I've got a great QB and a line that's looking big. We're looking good out there."
Culp was the anchor of a Halls defense that helped the Red Devils secure a 35-19 win against Carter on Thursday night. The junior linebacker amassed 14 tackles and three sacks against the Hornets as Halls has now won three games in a row.
Culp played safety as a freshman, but he said he has felt at home playing linebacker over the last two seasons.
"That's where I just found I belong," Culp said. "Getting to blitz off the edge coming in untouched sometimes, and getting to drop back into coverage, you get to play a little bit of both."
Halls will square off against Powell in a big region clash on Friday, while Oak Ridge will host rival Clinton.
