KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The 19th-ranked Tennessee women's basketball team set a new NCAA record for threes made in a game, and set a new program record for points scored in a game in a dominant win against North Carolina Central on Saturday inside Food City Center.
The Lady Vols drained an astounding 30 shots from beyond the arc, breaking Western Illinois' record of 28 set in 2018. Tennessee almost doubled its own program of 16, and scored the most points in Tennessee women's hoops history in a 139-59 walloping against NCCU.
Tennessee's previous record for points scored was 136, set against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on November 29, 2002.
Nine different Lady Vols made a three-pointer in the offensive onslaught, and Samara Spencer led the way with a 9-of-13 effort from long range and 10-of-15 overall to put up a career-high 32 points. Spencer also recorded ten assists for the double-double.
Talaysia Cooper (21), Tess Darby (17), Zee Spearman (15), Ruby Whitehorn (13) and Sara Puckett (11) all joined Spencer in double-digit scoring.
The Lady Vols improved to 8-0 this season, and their next matchup will take them on the road to face in-state foe Memphis on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 8:30 p.m.
