The Lady Vols dropped their first game against a Power Five opponent today, as they lost to the Penn State Lady Lions, 70-56.

After a tight first quarter, Tennessee struggled on offense. The team shot just 19% from the field in the 2nd quarter, scoring only 6 points.

In the third, the Lady Vols pushed back, getting a boost from junior guard Jamie Nared and center Mercedes Russell, narrowing the Penn State lead to just four points going into the 4th quarter.

The Lady Lions pulled away in the final ten minutes of the game though, going on a 13-2 run, proving to be too much for Tennessee to handle.

The Lady Vols struggled to score throughout the game, shooting 31.5% from the field and just 10.5% from downtown. Russell and Nared combined for 37 points and 22 rebounds for Tennessee. Diamond DeShields scored just 8 points on 15 shots.

Defensively, the Lady Vols could not stop Penn State from the three. The Lady Lions were 9 of 18 from behind the arc.

Tennessee will have a while to think about this loss, the Lady Vols won't play another game until November 27th when they travel to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech.
