Kaiya Wynn expected to miss 2024-2025 season with injury

Tennessee women's basketball guard Kaiya Wynn suffered a torn Achilles tendon in her right leg and is expected to miss the 2024-25 season, head coach Kim Caldwell announced Tuesday.

The Nashville native suffered the injury in practice Friday, Oct. 18.  Wynn plans to medical redshirt and complete her eligibility next season as a Lady Vol.

Wynn said although her season is over, she's excited to be a voice on the sidelines during this new era of Lady Vol basketball.

"While I am disappointed in this setback, I am excited about the upcoming year that awaits my Lady Vol teammates and coaches," said Wynn, "And I plan to be right beside them to provide my vocal and emotional support."

The senior guard averaged 4.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists off the bench last season, and scored in double figures a career-high five times in her third season at Tennessee.

Wynn said she's thankful for her family, teammates, and coaches' support during this difficult time in her career.

"Though I have a challenge before me and obstacles to overcome, I am grateful for everyone in our program, university, and fan base, as well as my family and friends for their encouragement," said Wynn. "I hope you'll join me in getting behind the 2024-2025 Lady Vols because they've been working so hard...I'm going to give my all in supporting this team...I hope I can count on each of you to do the same."
