ALCOA, Tenn. — Alcoa High School will move to a higher competition division starting next season, according to Alcoa High School athletic director, Josh Stephens.
Alcoa has been granted permission to become a 4A school after sending in a request to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association earlier this year. The school applied for 4A in hopes of playing a full 10-game schedule, a move they believe is what will be best for the school's football team.
This year the school plays a nine-game season and moving to the 4A division will make the process of playing 10 games easier, Stephens says. Alcoa will begin competing in the new division against other 4A schools starting next season against new rivals.
Projected regions are expected to be released in the next few days and competing schools will have the opportunity to appeal where they're placed in the region. Alcoa will kick off its first football season in the 4A division in 2025.
