CLINTON, Tennessee — Clinton's football wins from last season will not have to be forfeited.

According to a release from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, based on the information provided to them by Clinton High School, it is "rescinding" the disciplinary action imposed on the school for playing an ineligible player in the 2023 regular and postseason.

"The invoice amounts of $11,686.60 and $250 have been removed from the TSSAA portal," the association said.

In May, the school initially self-reported that they played an ineligible football player last season that didn't meet the credit requirement needed to play. The TSSAA responded that the player would cause Clinton to forfeit their wins.

The new principal at the high school Robbie Herrell, who was hired after the school reported the player was ineligible, then sent an email to the TSSAA in June saying the student-athlete was eligible the whole time. They presented proof to the TSSAA

"Upon further review of the student's transcript it was found that an additional credit was earned for government and economics," the letter stated. "Those credits were placed under 2022 instead of 2023, where they should have been placed."

In an Anderson County School Board of Education meeting last Thursday, Director of Schools Tim Parrott said they were working to help Clinton get the wins back.

The school got back six wins including two playoff wins against McMinn County and Oak Ridge. The one against McMinn County was their first playoff win since 2014.  The program made it to their first playoff quarterfinal since 1992.
