CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Alcoa won its ninth-consecutive 3A state championship on Friday afternoon against East Nashville by a final score of 42-20 in Chattanooga.
The Tornadoes put their mark on this game early with their defense. Micah Jones returned an interception 43 yards for a touchdown on East Nashville's first offensive possession to put Alcoa up 7-0.
Brandon Winton scored a touchdown after another Alcoa interception from Demauri Dubose that got Alcoa up 14-0.
The exclamation mark came in the second quarter when Alcoa scored 21 points unanswered to take a 35-7 lead into halftime.
Elijah Cannon, Brody Blankenship and Eli Graf all found the endzone in the quarter.
Graf was named the state championship game's Most Valuable Player after scoring four total touchdowns.
The state title marks the 22nd state championship in school history, extending the most ever in Tennessee.
The Tornadoes have won the state championship 10 of the last 11 years.
