KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Halls quarterback Amari Lethgo and Gibbs defensive back Maddox Brackfield are taking home player of the week accolades following standout Week 4 performances.
Lethgo displayed his dual-threat skillset in Halls' 36-14 win against Hardin Valley on Friday night. He accounted for all five of the Red Devils' touchdowns and totaled 325 passing yards and four scores through the air to go along with a rushing touchdown as well to help Halls to a 3-1 start to the season.
The junior quarterback has been in a starting role since his freshman year and only began playing football in eighth grade, but he said support from his teammates has helped him get where he is now.
"I learned a lot from the seniors last year, they helped me and mentored me a lot so I look up to them," Lethgo said. "We want to make it as far as we can and just keep playing together and having trust in each other as teammates. We want to keep building our chemistry and our bond."
Brackfield helped the Eagles start the season 4-0 and tallied nine tackles along with an interception in Gibbs' 58-28 victory against Seymour.
Gibbs hasn't begun a season 4-0 since 2012, and Brackfield said the team's closeness off the field helps the team have success during game time.
"Our bonds with each other are super tight and we just get better each and every day," Brackfield said. "It's a confidence thing. It helps us play more confidently and just allows that confidence out there knowing we have our friends back there helping us out."
Halls will look to build on recent success hosting Carter on Thursday night, while Gibbs goes on the road looking to keep the perfect record intact against South-Doyle on Friday.
