10Sports Blitz: Week 2 Player of the Week

Greeneville running back Carson Quillen and Sevier County linebacker Parker Newman are the players of the week for Week 2 of high school football!

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Greeneville running back Carson Quillen and Sevier County linebacker Parker Newman earned Player of the Week accolades after their respective squads took home big victories.

Carson Quillen was a workhorse for the Greene Devils in a 35-0 win against Dobyns-Bennett. The running back carried the ball 21 times for 241 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The senior is committed to playing baseball at Virginia Tech, but he has plenty of goals to accomplish on the gridiron.

"I want to be conference player of the year, and then further on, win Mr. Football," Quillen said. "We want to win a state championship. That's what we want every year."

Sevier County has now claimed the first two defensive honors of the season with Parker Newman getting the nod in week two.

The Smoky Bears took down Jefferson County 35-14 on Friday, and Newman racked up 12 total tackles, including eight solo tackles, along with a sack and two tackles for loss.

Newman said it was fun to get revenge on the Patriots from last season, and the Player of the Week honor is the cherry on top.

"I was in a different world that game. Energy was out of the roof, I could not wait to beat those guys," Newman said. "I just went out there and played my hardest, so I feel very honored."

Greeneville goes on the road against Cherokee on Friday, Sept. 6, while Sevier County travels to Lenoir City for a showdown against the Panthers.
