KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Halls running back Kameron Bates and Coalfield linebacker Coalton Henry took home the final Player of the Week honors of the regular season as both of their teams get ready for the playoffs.
Offensive player of the week Kameron Bates put up a whopping 265 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead his Red Devils to a 52-34 victory over rival Central in the regular season finale to head into the playoffs with an 8-2 record.
The senior running back said this season has already felt special as his squad prepares for the postseason.
"The season has meant a lot to me," Bates said. "I've enjoyed every moment of it. None of it happens without the whole team and coaching staff that we have around us and the fanbase as a whole supporting us."
On defense, Coalton Henry earned his second player of the week nod after posting 21 tackles in a victory over Rockwood to help region champ Coalfield finish the season 9-1.
Henry said the way his name is spelled is no coincidence.
"I guess when [my parents] figured out my mom was pregnant and they were moving down here, my dad was like, 'We'll name him Coalton, just like Coalfield,'" Henry said.
Now, Henry is excited to help his namesake school have success in the postseason.
"It feels good. We finished first in our region so we have home-field advantage," Henry said. "We've got the best community around, so it's just about getting with the guys and getting ready to make this playoff run."
