Grainger keeps practice 'very competitive'

The Grainger football team increases competition during practice.

The Grainger football team is prepping for the 2016 season by ramping up the competition during practice.

"We try to have competitive practices," head coach Chad Tate said. "We're as competitive as we can be."

The Grizzlies are raising the competition as they prepare to host Union County on August 19 for their first game of the season. Even more so, Tate is elevating the competition between his players.

"It's not necessarily about plays but players," Tate said. "That's what we try to emphasize to them."

Senior offensive lineman Madison Holbrook understands the significance of that competition.

"We know that if we slack off, there's someone behind us to take our spot," Holbrook said. "We've got to go out and give it all we've got."

Tate expects that effort from all players to achieve the team's goals this season.

"The long term goal of ours is to make the playoffs," Tate said. "The short term goal is to win on August 19."
