KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Former Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker scored a touchdown in NFL preseason action on Saturday.
The now Detroit Lions quarterback scored on a rushing touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hooker is the backup quarterback for the NFL team that selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft following his season to remember on Rocky Top. This is his second season as a pro.
Hooker was named Player of the Game by the Lions after going 12 of 15 passing for 160 yards with a 108.3 passer rating to go along with his rushing score.
In 2022 in his final season at UT, he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press, Coaches and USA TODAY. Hooker was an All-SEC First Team selection by the Associated Press, Coaches and USA TODAY.
The quarterback was an All-America Second Team selection by CBSSports.com/247Sports and named a third-team All-American selection by the Associated Press.
He finished fifth in the Heisman voting.
In 2022, he completed 229 of 329 passes for 3,135 yards, 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Hooker also scored five rushing touchdowns.
