KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Sources told WBIR on Monday afternoon that Tennessee Football hired De'Rail Sims, from Cincinnati, to replace Jerry Mack as UT's new running backs coach in the 2024-2025 season.

Earlier this month, the Vols lost Mack to the same gig in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sims spent four years coaching at the Power-5 level. He spent two years each at Louisville, and his most recent gig was coaching at Cincinnati.

Cincy's backfield was led by Corey Kiner who rushed for 1,047 yards and five touchdowns last season.

The South Carolina native will live closer to his hometown with the move to Knoxville. Sims previously coached at Carson-Newman, so he has ties to East Tennessee.

Tennessee will return Dylan Sampson and Cameron Seldon to the running back position. Still, the Vols lost two significant pieces, with Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright entering the NFL draft this offseason.
