DETROIT — Tennessee guard Dalton Knecht closed his college career with another stellar performance for the Vols. He set the program record with 37 points, the most ever in an NCAA Tournament game, in the Elite 8 loss to Purdue on Sunday.

The consensus First Team All-American said his lone season at Tennessee will be something he never forgets.

"It's changed a lot for me and my family, coming in here for this one season," Knecht said. "Everyone accepted me. Coaches, teammates, Vol Nation, everybody accepted me from the jump and I can't thank them enough."

Knecht especially showed his gratitude for head coach Rick Barnes, who he said has had a great impact on him and his career.

"He's proud of me and everything I have done," he said. "I love coach to death and I'm just sad that I won't ever be able to be coached by him again."

In his lone season at Tennessee, Knecht will be remembered as one of the best scorers in Vols' history, but he'll remember the team that got him to this point.

"All these guys are my brothers for life," Knecht said. "They accepted me for this one year and let me be exactly who I am."
