KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee basketball is coming off a huge win against its rival Kentucky on Saturday night. The day after the big win, Dalton Knecht went over to D1 in Hardin Valley and shot some hoops with kids for a NIL event.
The team didn't get back from Lexington until 3 a.m. Saturday. Knecht made a quick turn to wake up in the morning and play some knockout with young hoopers.
"I got back at [3 a.m.] and it was real cool just to come out here," Knecht said. "They come out and support us every single game, so giving back to the community, not much I can do other than that."
The event at D1 lasted a little over an hour and included an autograph session, one-on-one matchups against Knecht and other basketball activities. Knecht also got a chance to have conversations with fans of all ages in the area.
The Vols' leading scorer said he enjoyed spending time with the community that gives so much support to him.
"Hearing the kid's stories about how much of an inspiration I am to them," he said. "Putting a smile on the kid's faces... seeing them smile with their parents when I sign their stuff, it's real cool."
In his first and final season at Tennessee, Knecht has already created many relationships with fans all over the community. He said he wishes he had more time as a Vol but he's grateful for the memories so far.
"Tennessee's a special place," Knecht said. "I love it here, and I wish I had more years here to meet more people."
