KNOXVILLE, Tenn — Tennessee football will honor legendary Lady Vol women's basketball head coach Pat Summitt on Saturday in their game against UConn with some special Summitt Blue accents to their jerseys.
Vols head coach Josh Heupel said the team will do this because November is Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month. Summitt died in 2016 from complications of the disease.
This is the second season Tennessee will do so. Last year, they also wore Summitt Blue accessories such as arm bands and wristbands when they played against UT Martin.
Here's what the uniforms look like this year:
Summitt led the Lady Vols to eight national championships and won 32 combined SEC Championships from 1974 to 2012. She was named NCAA Coach of the Year seven times.
The Lady Vols last season debuted new Summitt Blue uniforms. The "Summitt Blue" color historically was the blue accent color of their uniforms and the logo, receiving the new name in 2022 to honor Coach Summitt's legacy on the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
Tennessee and UConn play at noon on Saturday inside Neyland Stadium. The Vols improved to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in SEC play following a 33-27 win against Kentucky this past weekend. UT was ranked No. 19 in the latest Associated Press Top 25.
