Tennessee to wear 'dark mode' uniforms for Kentucky match-up

Overall, Tennessee is 4-1 while wearing the dark uniform with its only loss being against Kentucky.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — University of Tennessee Football announced the team will be in 'dark mode' for it's game against Kentucky Saturday night.

The No. 7 Vols will take on Kentucky at 7:45 p.m. at Neyland Stadium in all-black uniforms with Tennessee orange numbers and power 'T.' The game will be televised on the SEC Network.

In a video posted to social media Monday morning, the team draws inspiration from the Marvel anti-hero 'Venom' while playing 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar.

UT Atheltic Director Danny White posted on "X" asking for fans to bring 'dark mode' everywhere.

"Everywhere! The stands, the field, the tailgates, #VolNavy, you get the picture! Let's make it spooky," White said.

The last time the team wore the all-black uniforms was in its game against South Carolina in 2023. UT won that game 41-20. Overall, Tennessee is 4-1 while wearing the dark uniform with its only loss being against Kentucky.

The Vols defeated Alabama at home on Oct. 12 with a final game score of 24-17. The Vols trailed 7-0 at halftime despite multiple miscues, but Tennessee rallied in a leading effort to beat Alabama in back-to-back home games. With less than two minutes left in regulation, Tennessee kicked a field goal, bringing the lead to 24-17 before intercepting the ball from Alabama to secure the win.

This win against Alabama was Tennessee's second in two years. The Vols beat them in 2022 for the first time in 16 years back in 2006, with a final score of 52-49.

Six teams now sit in front of UT in the rankings. Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami (Florida) and Texas take the lead in that order, with Oregon holding the number one spot.
