KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football, meet "Smokey Grey."

The Vols announced Thursday they will sport the dark color during their first game of the season against Chattanooga.

The Vols released the new Smokey Grey uniform design in July. In 2022, Tennessee and Nike agreed on a contract allowing the Vols to wear the uniform one game per year through 2025.

According to Tennessee Athletics, the new Smokey Grey uniform series pays tribute to the Volunteer State.

For the first time, the jerseys worn at home will feature "Tennessee" on the front and a patch showing the Tri-Star emblem on the sleeves, representing the three grand divisions of the state: West, Middle and East Tennessee.

The new orange and grey helmets feature a Great Smoky Mountain pattern and the state flag stripe. The shorts also feature the Tri-Star state logo and the three stars "mirroring flag alignment."

Kickoff is scheduled at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Neyland Stadium.
