UT alumni flood campus for homecoming weekend

Generations of Vols embraced the on-campus changes and reminisced on their times as students.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UT's homecoming game brought generations of Vols back to campus with many participating in the familiar game day routine.

"I'm proud to be a UT alum," Matt Gannon, a 2019 UT alumnus, said.

Whether these former Vols graduated recently or more than 40 years ago, they all recognize the changes the campus has gone through over the years.

"Oh, wow, they got robots that are delivering food," Chestine Hughes, a 1984 alumni, said.

As the Vols football team beat UConn, these VFLs couldn't help but remember the football team during their time at school.

"When I came in, Johnny Majors was the coach, Willie Gault and Anthony Hancock were wide receivers," Hughes said. "It was just so many awesome players—Bill Bates, Johnny Williams, the Mckenzie brothers."

As the festivities continue through the weekend, alumni know they are celebrating with future generations of volunteers.

"You're a Vol for life, whatever you contribute to the school, make sure that it's representative of you and representative of what Tennessee means—you know this is our stomping ground," Hughes said.
