SEC analyst puts Tennessee Football among top 5 in rankings, expects Oklahoma matchup to test offense

Chris Doering, an SEC Network analyst, made a guest appearance at the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Members of the Knoxville Quarterback Club met Monday with special guest Chris Doering, an SEC Network analyst. He said he was impressed when Josh Heupel, Tennessee Football's head coach, invited him to a scrimmage at "Pro Day" in March.

"At that point in time, I went on record, I said, 'Tennessee is gonna win 10 games and Tennessee is gonna be a college football playoff team,'" Doering said. "And I couldn't be more wrong because I don't see them losing two games this year."

He said he expects Tennessee's upcoming matchup against Oklahoma to be the first test of the Vols' offense, and the Sooners' defense.

"You got to be physical at the line of scrimmage with the receivers to disrupt the timing of the routes," Doering said. "They play fast, they play physical, they hit you, they have great turnovers. I think that this is gonna be obviously the best test for Tennessee's offense this season."

He also shared his power 5 SEC ranking, listed below.

  1. Texas
  2. Tennessee
  3. Georgia
  4. Ole Miss
  5. Alabama
