KNOXVILLE, Tenn. โ After a record-breaking performance during Tennessee's season opener, QB Nico Iamaleava was picked as an SEC Freshman of the Week.
During Iamaleava's first start in Neyland Stadium, the redshirt freshman threw for 314 yards in the first half against Chattanooga, setting a program record for most passing yards in a half. The previous record was set by Tyler Bray in 2012 against Troy. He had 313 yards.
Iamaleava completed 22 of 28 passes and threw for three touchdowns. He started the game with 15 of his first 16 pass attempts going for completions. He is the fourth Vol quarterback to throw for 300 yards in a half.
Tennessee takes on NC State in the Duke's Mayo Classic on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
