INDIANAPOLIS — Former Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday.
Wright ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash. A time under 4.40 seconds is considered very good. It was the second fastest time for a running back in 21024. His top speed of 15.8 miles per hour is the fastest by a running back in the last 20 NFL Scouting Combines.
He also posted 11'2" on the broad jump. That was the longest among running backs when he made his attempt. It was tied for second-best by a running back in NFL Combine history.
The Vol declared for the NFL Draft after a big junior season where he totaled 1,013 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns. Wright was the first 1,000-yard rusher at Tennessee since Jalen Hurd did so in 2015. He had 22 receptions for 141 yards.
He averaged 7.4 yards per attempt, which nationally ranked only behind LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels who won the Heisman. His yards per carry were the best by a Vol running back since Hall of Famer Hank Lauricella had 7.94 yards per carry in 1951.
Wright was named to the Associated Press All-SEC second team.
The NFL Draft takes place from April 25-27.
