MIAMI — Former Tennessee outfielder Jordan Beck got his first career Major League Baseball hit on Tuesday.
Beck was called up by the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday ahead of their game with the Miami Marlins. In his first plate appearance on his first swing, he hit the ball to center field and got a single out of it.
Beck was drafted by the Rockies in the 2022 MLB Draft with the 38th overall pick. He played in AAA ball with the Albuquerque Isotopes this season. He had a .307 batting average in 25 games in Albuquerque prior to being called up to the big leagues.
Beck played three seasons at Tennessee before getting drafted. He had a .287 batting average in his career at UT. He hit 15 home runs and had 64 RBIs in 2021. In his final year in 2022, he had 18 home runs and 61 RBIs.
Beck was famously known as Mike Honcho in his final season at Tennessee following a mix-up with some bats on the road against Vanderbilt in 2022. A sticker needed for approval to be put on a bat during a game came off prior to an at-bat. He hit a home run, but attention was called to a sticker missing after he hit it and his shot over the fence was taken off the board.
Head coach Tony Vitello then gave him the nickname during a broadcast interview.
