KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — With football time in Tennessee 49 days away, the University of Tennessee is debuting the football team's newest uniform series.
According to Tennessee Athletics, the new Smokey Grey uniform series pays tribute to the Volunteer State.
For the first time, the jerseys worn at home will feature "Tennessee" on the front and a patch showing the Tri-Star emblem on the sleeves, representing the three grand divisions of the state: West, Middle and East Tennessee.
The new orange and grey helmets feature a Great Smoky Mountain pattern and the state flag stripe. The shorts also feature the Tri-Star state logo and the three stars "mirroring flag alignment."
In 2022, Tennessee and Nike agreed on a contract allowing the Vols to wear a Smokey Grey uniform one game per year through 2025. Last year’s uniform honored legendary Vols quarterback Condredge Holloway and was worn during the Austin Peay game.
The Volunteers' first game of the 2024 season is scheduled to kick off Saturday, August 31 at Neyland Stadium against Chattanooga.
