Tennessee men's basketball rises to No. 3 in both the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee men's basketball team climbed to No. 3 in both major national polls released Monday.

The 7-0 Vols rose four spots in the AP Top 25 and three spots in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

In the AP Poll, Tennessee received 1,351 points, a 235-point increase from last week.  In The Coaches Poll, the team received 694 points, up 107 from the previous week.

Under head coach Rick Barnes, the Vols have earned 60 AP top-10 rankings in his 10-year tenure, including 28 in the top five.

The Volunteers had a 78-35 home victory over UT Martin with fifth-year guard Chaz Lanier leading all scorers with 18 points. Tennessee has led for 266 minutes and 16 seconds out of a possible 280 minutes so far this season. 

The Volunteers host Syracuse on Tuesday in an SEC/ACC Challenge matchup.
