KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 8 Tennessee baseball brought the thunder on a rainy night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium and the Vols secured a dominant win against Ole Miss in their SEC home opener on Friday.
The Vol bats left the yard five times and Christian Moore homered twice as Tennessee trounced the Rebels in a 15-3 run-rule win.
Kavares Tears and Robin Villeneuve hit a homer each and went 3-for-4 at the plate in Tennessee's offensive flurry. Villeneuve led the team with four RBIs, while Reese Chapman and Dean Curley each tallied three RBIs. Moore and Tears also enjoyed multi-RBI nights with two a piece.
A.J. Causey struck out six batters while allowing two earned runs in a 5.2-inning start. Kirby Connell and Chris Stamos pitched two-thirds of an inning each in relief.
Tennessee earned its 20th win of the season and moved to 20-3, including 2-2 in conference play. The Vols will try and secure their first conference series win of the season when they take on Ole Miss for game two of the series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Saturday, March 23 at 6 p.m.
