DETROIT — Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi is warming up with the intent to play for the Vols in their Elite 8 game against Purdue.
The Vol guard missed the Sweet 16 game against Creighton due to the flu which caused him to miss the practices leading up to the game.
Jahmai Mashack, who started in the Sweet 16 and seven games in total this season, is listed as a starter for the game. Vescovi would come off the bench.
Vescovi practiced on Friday with the team and exercised that morning as well. He said on Friday he felt better heading into the day and would just evaluate how he felt heading into game day.
"I'm going to do whatever it takes to play," he said.
He is averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He is one of the best perimeter defenders on the Vols.,
Vescovi leads the program all-time in steals. He had started every game for the Vols this season prior to missing the last game.
Game time is at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday in Detroit. The game will be televised on CBS.
