TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Tennessee women's basketball's late push came up short against Alabama on Thursday night inside the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Lady Vols went into the fourth quarter down 58-42 and opened the frame with ten unanswered points, but the deficit was too large to overcome and Tennessee fell 72-56 to a red-hot Crimson Tide team. The Lady Vols' 56 points scored matched their lowest scoring output of the season.
Scoring struggles doomed Tennessee in the loss with Rickea Jackson leading the Lady Vols with 13 points on 6-for-15 shooting. Jewel Spear came into the game averaging almost 26 points over her last three contests but put up just five points in the loss and shot 1-for-9 from the floor and 1-for-7 from three-point range. Jasmine Powell was the only other double-digit scorer for Tennessee with ten points.
Alabama's Aaliyah Nye posted a game-high 23 points to help Alabama win its fourth game in a row, and Jessica Timmons added 14 points in the victory for the Crimson Tide.
Tennessee fell to 14-8 this season and 7-3 in SEC play following the loss. The Lady Vols will try and regroup when they return home to host Arkansas inside the Food City Center on Monday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
