KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee women's basketball has four new assistant coaches that will help under new head coach Kim Caldwell's era on Rocky Top.
The team announced the additions on Tuesday.
They are Roman Tubner, the former associate head coach/recruiting coordinator at Alabama, Gabe Lazo, the former associate head coach/defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, Jenna Burdette, the former associate head coach at Marshall and Angel Rizor, a former assistant coach at Marshall.
With these additions, Caldwell has a mix of coaches who have coached in the SEC before as well as former assistants from her last two schools she was head coach for.
"I am very pleased to welcome our new coaching staff members to Rocky Top," Caldwell said in a statement. "It's an outstanding group of high-energy coaches that is gifted in the areas of recruiting, teaching, motivating, mentoring and player development. I'm so excited to get our basketball team on the court with this group and can't wait to see what we can collectively do as a staff to help our current players and future Lady Vols become the best they can possibly be."
Tubner has spent the last three seasons with the Crimson Tide and was promoted to associate head coach prior to last season. He helped the Crimson Tide to three consecutive 20+ win seasons for the first time since 1999, including a 24-victory campaign in 2023-24 that was Alabama's best since 1998.
Lazo has spent the last two seasons at Mississippi State. He is known for being a good recruiter and he helped lead in getting the No. 3 transfer class prior to the 2023-2024 season. He also helped the Bulldogs get the 16th-rated class in 2022-23. He also specializes in defensive strategy.
Burdette has five years of experience as an assistant, including three seasons working with Caldwell in stints at Glenville State at the Division II level and then at Marshall Rizor also spent time with Caldwell at Glenville State and Marshall.
Former Tennessee assistant coaches Jon Harper, husband of former head coach Kellie Harper, and Samantha Williams aren't with the team now. Former assistant coach Joy McCrvey is now the new head coach at Stony Brook.
