DETROIT — Tennessee men's basketball is headed to the Elite 8 for just the second time in program history.
The Vols beat Creighton in the Sweet 16 by a final score of 82-75 to make it to the Midwest Regional final.
While this team is proud to have made it this far, they have bigger goals.
"We are a part of history," guard Zakai Zeigler said worked our tails off all summer and just to be in this position we are in today. We understand we want to get further and we are not done with where we want to be for the end of this season. But it is a blessing we are a part of history and made this run.. "
Dalton Knecht is grateful to make an Elite 8, but he is seeking more as well.
"It's something special that we made it to the Elite 8, but it also not our goal to be in the Elite 8," he said. "We want to be in the national title game so there is still more work to do. We are just going out there and playing basketball and we are excited we are in the Elite 8 but the job is not finished."
Tennessee will play Purdue for a chance at the Final Four on Sunday at 2:20 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS.
