GAINESVILLE, Fla. — No. 3 Tennessee used a very strong offensive performance in the sixth inning to blast Florida by a final score of 16-3 on Saturday in Gainesville.
They won 16-3 and won by the mercy rule in seven innings.
Florida gained the lead just like they did in Game 2, with a home run. Ty Evans sent a two-run shot over the fence, and the Vols trailed 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Jac Caglianone scored for the Gators on a throwing error to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Vols cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Hunter Ensley doubled to left field, which scored Dean Curley and Billy Amick. Tennessee trailed 3-2.
The Vols exploded for 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Dean Curley singled to tie the game. Ensley then doubled to drive in two runs. Blake Burke was walked, which brought in a run. Billy Amick flew out to bring in another run.
Kavares Tears reached first after a wild pitch occurred on his strikeout, which allowed another two runs. Curley brought in another run with another single. Ensley then hit a three-run home run to put the Vols up 13-3.
Ensley had 7 RBIs on the game and five of them came in the sixth inning.
Christian Moore hit his team-leading 21st home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run shot for a 15-3 lead. Burke hit a solo home run on the next at-bat to make the lead 16-3.
Tennessee wins the series after winning Game 1 and losing Game 2. UT improves to 17-7 in SEC play. The Vols play Queens next on Tuesday at 6 p.m. inside Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
