Couple shares how the Vols are the glue of their relationship

Vols couple went from Tennessee's snowy weather to Florida's tropical warmth to watch their favorite game beat the Tigers and celebrate New Year's Eve.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It was a few days before the Vols would face the Tigers. Amy and Michael Gleason had flying tickets with American Airlines and their flights were pushed back with one delay after another.

The Gleasons, who now live in Nashville, weren't going to take the risk to miss their favorite team playing at the Orange Bowl. After their flights were finally canceled, they decided they would hop on the road and drive there.

After all, their whole New Year's plans were made around the Vols game.

"We were all excited to get to come to a big bowl game again and come to the Orange Bowl," Amy said.

This orange couple has been following one game after another. Amy said because they used to live in Florida they were unable to attend the games. Now that they moved back to Tennessee, she wants to make up for the lost time.

"We bought season tickets this year and went to almost all the games home and away actually," Amy said.

The couple said they were both divorced when they first met and were just friends. But after a while, that friendship took a different turn.

"We fell in love and we've been married for almost 19 years now," Amy said.

One of the things they cherish in their relationship is the Vols team. They said they enjoy their tailgates and gathering with friends to cheer and support their team.

"That's definitely a glue that helps bring us together and gives us a lot of fun and entertaining," Michael said. "Things to participate as a couple in."

They said their favorite moment from this season was when the Vols beat Alabama. Michael said that Amy was waiting until the last minute to cheer because the game was so intense.

"Of course, we had some cigars there, went back to the tailgate and celebrate the victory," Michael said.

Since everything was planned around the Orange Bowl game, Michael and Amy spent their New Year's Eve at a piano bar in Florida.

"She actually got them to play Rocky Top," Michael said.

Amy said now everyone is waiting to see how the Vols will perform next. After a successful season like this one, Amy said the expectations are high.

"Thank you to the Vols team for making a great year," Amy said. "Especially Hooker and Jalen Hyatt and all the team."
