A 'Go Vols' that's out of this world: Butch Wilmore sends Tennessee baseball encouragement from space!

The East Tennessee astronaut couldn't be at the game because he's in low-Earth orbit right now.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — VFL Butch Wilmore is cheering on the Vols baseball team in a way that very few Vol fans can -- from space!

University of Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman shared a photo of Wilmore clad in orange with the planet Earth behind him.

"I often say we have the best fans in the country, but today, #VolNation is out of this world - literally!" she said.

The College World Series national championship is on the line Monday night. The Vols play Texas A&M in Omaha in a winner-takes-all game starting at 7 p.m. EDT. The game will air on ESPN.

Wilmore is currently aboard the Boeing Starliner to test the spacecraft. It was supposed to return to Earth earlier in June, however, NASA has pushed that date back several times to a yet-to-be-determined date as of Friday.

NASA said it is trying to investigate issues with the capsule discovered earlier in the flight, saying its propulsion system had issues alongside a slow helium leak.

“We are taking our time and following our standard mission management team process,” Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, said. “We are letting the data drive our decision-making relative to managing the small helium system leaks and thruster performance we observed during rendezvous and docking.”
