KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Following Tennessee's intense top-five loss to the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday night, a crucial hit by Blake Burke was initially overlooked, only to be officially counted after the game.
After the matchup, his eight-inning single was ruled a hit, setting a new Tennessee hit streak record at 28 games. With the single, Burke broke Condrege Holloway's previous record of 27 all-time at the university.
The first baseman's hit was first ruled an error on Kentucky before a stat correction was made after the loss.
Burke tied Holloway's record when Tennessee played Bellarmine on Tuesday. His hit streak started in March in the series opener against Bowling Green.
Additionally, Burke recently set a new program home run record in the game against Bellarmine. He has 43 big swings on the season so far.
Tennessee is looking to bounce back in Game 2 of the conference series against Kentucky. Saturday's first pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Kentucky Proud Park.
