DETROIT — Tennessee men's basketball took care of business against Creighton on Friday night inside Little Caesars Arena to reach the Elite 8 for just the second time in program history.
The Vols overcame the Bluejays without starting guard Santiago Vescovi, who missed the game due to illness, in a 82-75 triumph that sent Tennessee to the Midwest Regional Finals, where the team will square off against top-seeded Purdue on Sunday.
Tennessee's lone Elite 8 appearance before the 2023-24 season was in the 2009-10 campaign, when a sixth-seeded Tennessee team overcame No. 2 Ohio State in the Sweet 16 in St. Louis. The team went on to lose a heartbreaker to No. 5 Michigan State in the Elite 8 that season, 70-69.
The Vols will be looking for their first-ever trip to the Final Four when they battle No. 1 Purdue inside Little Caesars Arena on Sunday, March 31 at 2:20 p.m. The Boilermakers will be in search of their first Final Four bid since 1980.
