KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Powell running back Connor Wheeler and Coalfield safety Levi Heidel have earned Player of the Week honors for Week 7 of the high school football season.

In the 38-0 shutout win against Karns, Wheeler rushed for 212 yards on 12 carries. He scored four out of the Panther's five touchdowns, helping extend the team's win streak to six.

With just three games left in the regular season, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 251-57. Powell has relied on Wheeler's wheels to achieve a 6-1 record.

The senior running back won a state title in 2021 when he was a freshman at Powell, and he said another championship his senior year is his main goal this season.

"It would mean way more than the freshman year," said Wheeler. "Being our senior year, that's one of the things you want to accomplish before you go to college."

On defense, Coalfield's Levi Heidel had the stats to pull off his first Player of the Week honors. The senior safety had four tackles in the 62-0 shutout against Oakdale, but his record-breaking 97-yard pick-six really stood out on the stat sheet.

He said the interception was a highlight in his high school career.

"It's gonna be something I remember forever," said Heidel. "It's one of the biggest plays I've ever had, so now my name's gonna be in the school book for a little while."

This Friday, Powell is on a bye week before taking on the Bobcats of Central High School. For Coalfield, the Yellow Jackets play Sunbright in a Thursday night game.
