KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Anderson County running back Waylon LaRue and Farragut linebacker Connor Parris are taking home this week's honors, after stellar performances on Friday.
On offense, LaRue ran the ball 15 times for 205 yards and four touchdowns in the Mavericks' win against Gibbs to clinch the region title.
Last year, LaRue started running track and placed third in states in the 100-meter. He said track has had a huge impact on his football success.
“Track has helped me out a tremendous amount,” said LaRue. “It’s gotten me in great shape, great running form, and getting my form right has made me feel faster and more elusive going into this season.”
On defense, Parris posted nine tackles, one sack, and a pick-six in the Admiral's 34-21 win over Hardin Valley.
Farragut has turned their season around recently. The Admirals lost five straight games to start their schedule, but are currently on a four-game win streak.
Parris said those wins are contagious and one more to end the season would be a huge momentum swing heading into playoffs.
“Us just doing our jobs and being confident, instead of beating ourselves up over losing those first few games, is just a major help," he said.
Farragut will take on a Maryville team that suffered its first loss of the season just last week against Alcoa. Meanwhile, Anderson County is looking for one final win against South Doyle before the postseason rolls around.
