Three hospitalized after semi-trucks crashed off eastbound I-40 in Jefferson County

TDOT said two tractor trailers crashed on I-40 in Jefferson County Friday morning, sending three people to the hospital and blocking a ramp at Deep Springs Road.

Emergency crews responded and three people were injured after two tractor trailers crashed on the eastbound side of Interstate 40 in Jefferson County Friday morning.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the crash occurred on the exit ramp onto I-40 at Deep Springs Road at mile marker 412. One person was transported the hospital via LIFESTAR, two others were taken by ambulance according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Troopers said they were concerned that diesel fuel leaked into a creek or storm run-off area.

No mainline lanes are blocked, but the large presence of emergency vehicles caused backups on the eastbound side of the interstate.

THP said the preliminary investigation appears to show one of the trucks ran off the interstate through the grass, hitting another truck parked on the ramp.

One of the semi-trucks appears to have been carrying produce that was strewn about the road after the cargo trailer was split open. Neither of the trucks had immediately identifiable markings on their trailers.
