THP identifies two teens killed, two injured after crash in Roane County

All four were wearing seat belts, THP said. A report indicates, however, the belts in this case would not have saved the victims' lives.

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — Update (5/27/19): The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the two people killed and two injured Sunday afternoon in a crash near Harriman in Roane County.

The crash occurred about 2:20 p.m. on Orchard Valley Road at Dyllis Road, a fatality report from THP said.

Holden Melton, an 18-year-old from Wartburg, was driving a 2002 Nissan Maxima around a left hand curve with a downhill grade when the car went off the right side of the road, according to the report. The car then hit a tree and stopped in the road.

The crash injured Melton and killed two passengers in the car, Austin French, an 18-year-old from Harriman, and Joshua Freels, a 16-year-old from Harriman. 

Kameron French, a 16-year-old from Harriman, was injured in the crash.

Austin French was sitting in the right front passenger seat, Freels was sitting in the right rear passenger seat, and Kameron French was sitting in the left rear passenger seat, the report said.

All four were wearing seat belts. The report, however, stated the belts would not have prevented the fatalities.

Criminal charges are pending, according to the THP report.

Original (5/26/19): Two people are dead after a crash on Orchard Valley Road in Roane County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Officials said it was a single vehicle crash with 2 confirmed fatalities.
