Tennessee death row inmate Paul Dennis Reid, 55, convicted of killing seven people in three fast-food restaurant murders in 1997, died at Nashville General Hospital at Meharry at 5:55 p.m. Friday.
The Tennessee Department of Corrections confirmed Reid was pronounced dead, but said no cause would be released before the state medical examiner's report.
Reid was rumored to be in ill health at Metro General during the past several days, but representatives from the hospital and the corrections department declined to comment on his condition.
The convicted killer's death came months after the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled appeals of his conviction and death sentence could not be filed against his wishes.
Linda Martiniano, his sister who continued to appeal on his behalf, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Reid had been on death row since 1999 after being convicted of the following murders:
• On Feb. 16, 1997, Reid murdered Sarah Jackson, 16, and Steve Hampton, 25, two workers at the Donelson Captain D's.
• On March 23, 1997, Reid murdered Andrea Brown, 17, Ronald Santiago, 27, and Robert Sewell Jr., 23, while robbing a McDonald's in Hermitage. He also stabbed Jose Antonio Ramirez Gonzalez 17 times.
• On April 23, 1997, Reid murdered Angela Holmes, 21, and Michelle Mace, 16, at the Baskin-Robbins in Clarksville.
