TENNESSEE, USA — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released the total of officer-involved shootings that happened in 2024. The shooting in Blount County, involving two Blount County Sheriff's deputies, marked the ninth officer-involved shooting.
Half of those shootings happened in East Tennessee, including Sevier, Hamilton, Knox, Hamilton and Blount counties.
In Knox County, a 38-year-old was shot and killed by police after he attempted to hit them with his vehicle. This was to find a missing Knox County girl, who was later found safe near Georgia.
In Sevier County, TBI and Sevier County Sheriff's Office investigated a shooting at an apartment complex involving an SCSO deputy. A call from a resident at Smoky Crossing Apartments saying her ex-boyfriend was outside with a gun.
The latest shooting TBI was called to investigate was in Jackson, Madison County on Feb. 11.
TBI recorded 50 shootings involving law enforcement in 2023. These are cases TBI agents were called in to investigate.
