NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Metro Nashville Police Department said five people died after a small plane crashed on the side of I-40 in West Nashville.
The crash was reported behind the Nashville West Shopping Center at around 7:44 p.m. shortly after the plane took off from nearby John Tune Airport, according to the Metro Nashville Airport Authority.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said some of the road was closed following the plane crash, and eastbound traffic was seen diverted towards Charlotte Pike.
Metro Nashville said that the National Transportation Safety Board would arrive Tuesday.
